With the upcoming release of The Hunger Games movie (March 22, I believe) some of the staff were discussing the possibility of (re)reading the book in preparation, and then perhaps recording a podcast on the classic book/movie debate.

Then, we thought it might be fun to extend the (re)read to everyone, like a forum book club. We're talking about whether we'd like try to read the whole trilogy or just Book 1 before the movie - of course this would greatly affect the pace of the group. And we'd set benchmarks (chapters/pages/whatever) for discussion every week or so.

So, who's interested? Comment on this post and let us know if you're in, if you have an opinion on what should be read before 3/22, how quickly we should go, how reading "assignments" should be divided, how frequently the next section should be opened for discussion, etc. :)

I have read the entire series, but I will re-read them once again to be part of this discussion!

The book moves pretty quickly, but I should give it a once over before I can give any input on a book club pacing.

All in all I think this is a great idea!

I'm really looking forward to this! It's been about a couple of months to a year since I've read the trilogy and I can't wait to read it again.

I'm about halfway through another book, too. We don't have to start right away. According to the publisher, there are 384 pages. And we have over 2 months.

What's a comfortable approximate reading rate for everyone? 100 pages/week? More? Less?

I will let you guys set the pace. If I enjoy a book I can read 100 pages a day.

I think 100 pages a week is pretty reasonable, especially since the books are pretty fast paced.

I think 100 pages is pretty reasonable, but listening to the audio book might be an option for those who want to participate but don't have the time to sit down and read something. (Btw, I heard the audio book is pretty awesome via Kenny and a coworker of mine, so I might have to check that out at some point.)

Whaddaya say we "start" the week of January 30? Is that too soon? We should be done about 3 weeks before the movie's released, based on that start time.

I divided the book into 4 parts of approximate 100 pages each, solely based on page count, cause I haven't read the book. I also googled study guide questions, because I'm a totally nerd. I'm thinking of posting the questions for the designated chapters on Mondays, just to help generate discussion.

Chapters 1-7 - Feb 6
Chapters 8-14 - Feb 13
Chapters 15-21 - Feb 20
Chapters 22-27 - Feb 27
(I think those dates are right)

Thoughts?
